Good to meet you.
That’s a bit tongue-in-cheek since I probably know you and told you to come here and check out my first post. We’re going to go with it though.
I was born in Akron, I went to school in Akron (and Kent), and now I work in Akron. Needless to say this city has had a huge role in shaping who I am and I have a strange, unexplainable love for the place, even if I am overly critical of it at times.
I like to create things. I used to draw and paint but I couldn’t tell you the last time I picked up a pencil and I’m pretty sure every last acrylic tube of paint in my closet is bone dry. I need some way of burning my creative energy off and it ends up coming out through some unexpected ways. The main way I create now is through businesses. Weather it’s a new idea, or a new process, or a new marketing campaign, once it hits me I’ll spend hours building it out and figuring out how to make it work. This is pretty evident in that bio on the front page. When I was writing it I noticed that I essentially tackle one new large project each year. This realization was a bit cathartic for me since I’ve been feeling overwhelmed lately as it seems like I keep piling new things on.
With this in mind, my new plan for a better work-life balance (which is bullshit and I’ll tell you more about that later) is to focus about half of my energy on the new project each year, then about 30% on the year before’s project, and about 20% on the project before that. This should keep my ADHD in check by giving myself enough things to jump to as one gets boring while still making progress on each project.
I’ll be using this space to write about different things I read, different themes that seem to recur, or just whatever jumps into my head on Sunday mornings.
